Finally! Something a little bit more interesting!

Finally Zelazny is doing something other than "preaching" to his readers. The action I had gotten to know from the novels of his I last read (as explained in my earlier blog post) is beginning to emerge. The first 230 pages were pretty dull, and incredibly confusing, due to all the obscure and time traveling plot line (it begins at one point in time, goes back to an earlier point in time, and then returns to the original point in time). So when the action finally begins I was quite excited, and my mood went from dull, lying on the couch to sitting up straight, intently focused on the novel.

"Then, in the distance, within the river, a soft light bean. It pulsed warmly, and something like a tentacle seemed to wave for a moment above the surface of the waters." (Zelazny 246)

"Mara grew into a giant, and his chariot was a mountain. His horses spanned eternities as they galloped forward. Lightning leapt from Sam's lance, like spray from a fountain. A blizzard suddenly swirled about him." (Zelazny 247)

"The zombies slew the last of the men is sight. Then, as the turned to seek more life, the drumming ceased and they fell to the ground themselves." (Zelazny 248)

These are a mere sample of Zelazny, and I believe that only until you immerse yourself in this entire world the author has built can you truly be awed at them. The pages 10-15 pages before these quotes, and 10-15 after are filled with just as amazing writing and description.
