I've started reading through my novel "Children of Dune" bye Frank Herbert, and at the beginning of every chapter there is a small "quote" from the fictional philosophers and a religious text which is an equivalent of the modern-world Bible.
"The Fremen must return to his original faith, to his genius in forming human communities; he must return to the past, where that lesson of survival was learned in the struggle with Arrakis. The only business of the Fremen should be that of opeing his soul to the inner teachings. " (Herbert 20)
I've found these little 'quotes' to be a helpful insight into the world of Dune. They help immerse the reader into the novel, making the universe seem just a tad more plausible (since the Dune series are indeed masterpieces of science fiction) . This definitely gives the reader a little more insight and appreciation into the world Frank Herbert has created. Not only is his writing enticing, but all the work he's put into the novel (such as these quotes) is really what has been making this book so interesting to read.
