Abomination

In the novel The Children of Dune there is a character, Alia, who is going insane. She was born with millions of years of knowledge before her time, having the memories of many many different people. These memories assert themselves as multiple personalities that she must learn to control or she will become 'possessed' by these memories. This is exactly what happens (Herbert 150-154), and the personality of the Baron Harrkonen (the 'bad guy' in the first Dune novel) controls her. She now has become a violent, strict, and bloodthirsty ruler.

I believe the theme the author is trying to convey to us is that each and every person has urges to do terrible and violent things. We can easily succumb and turn into something we don't want to be. However, we need to learn how to control these violent urges, and our leaders need to be capable of controling these urges in order to do things peacefully, thoughtfully, and non-maliciously.
